How to Find the Right Picture for your eBook Cover Page Template

How to Find the Right Picture for your eBook Cover Page Template

Having some trouble while you are looking for the perfect picture for your ebook cover page? The first thing you need to do is stop roaming endlessly. Sometimes, you need a few tips and tricks to find the things you need, even when it comes to looking for these things on the Internet. Keep in mind that ebooks are slightly different than the usual print books you will find in the nearest bookshop. Therefore, you need to think differently. It doesn’t necessarily mean that the pictures for your ebook should be extremely different, but maybe the effect that a print book picture would have on a potential reader would not be the same when it comes to a potential ebook reader. That is why you should open your eyes and think of something different, and more innovative. After all, we are talking about an innovative, virtual way of selling books, aren’t we?

The first thing you need to do is become inspired. You will need a daily dose of raw inspiration that will help you find the perfect picture for your ebook. We suggest you start wandering around and start taking photographs of each book cover in all of the bookshops in your city. By browsing through a pile of photographs, you might become more inspired to find the perfect cover for your ebook, too.

Another thing that can truly help you is browsing through all of the portfolios belonging to the best cover designers. We suggest you start browsing Scarlett Rugers, one of the best designers out there. Find a page of the top world designers and do some research on their work. Look around and find some photographs that inspire you.

After you do this, create a small yet effective list of all of those things you like and place them in different categories. Think about the style of the photo in general, typography, coloring, negative space, what should in general be written on the ebook cover and so on.

Another thing you should never forget to do is browse to those covers that will not have the same effect on you as those who you thought were brilliant. You should always take a little time and make some research on the things you do not like. That way, you will be able to grasp your style in your hands much easier. By doing this, you will slowly but surely start learning some basic things about all of those aspects of photography you do not want to mess around. You will learn what attracts your eye, which colors you prefer, and what is your favorite typography.

In the end, always make sure you will subconsciously (or very consciously!) create a connection between the written words and the cover. After all, the cover serves as the artistic part of the story. The cover is a visual story teller that will either make your potential readers become interested in the ebook or simply keep on scrolling down, looking for the perfect ebook and cover. Good luck!

 Criteria of Selfselling eBook Cover

 Criteria of Selfselling eBook Cover

The first thing you need to know that a second glance to your personalized cover might be your opportunity for persuading a person to become a reader one day. Everybody knows that even though we do not want to admit, we do judge books by looking at their covers. So, if you decide to selfsell your cover, make sure it is truly the best one.

There are some covers that will make you feel astounded or even curious, and there are some covers that you will not look at twice in your life. It is exciting and different than all of the other e-books and it certainly peaks a lot of curiosity.

Designing an e-book might be more complex than you have expected in the first place.

If you want to successfully sell an e-book, then you should think about the entire package, not just parts of it. Think of the perfect coloring, negative space, typography, image style, the written words and everything else that pops in your mind. After that, you will need to find the perfect place to sell your e-book cover, right? There are a lot of web pages online, but you must always strive for the best ones. After all, you do not want your e-book to be seen just by two people on the Internet, right?

In the end, everything goes to one thing, and that is – selling more e-books than expected. You want to achieve more than your expectations you had in the beginning, and that is why you need to be creative. If you do not have any idea and want to get some inspiration, browse through Kindle and look around for some clues on how to selfsell the perfect e-book cover. If you want to be successful in it, you should also consider talking to a graphic designer, because they will help you nail the right way of creating and successfully selling an e-book cover depending on the content behind the cover.

Why Using a Psd eBook Cover Design Template is a Good Idea

Everyone judges books by their covers, literally. It’s a true fact that books with good quality covers, eye-catching font and good graphics have better sales. Even though some people may assert you that book cover designs are in decline, this is not true.

The design of book covers is more popular than ever and it even has its own awards. Design Observer holds annual awards for design of book covers with a judging panel of 35 people. And this field deserves these awards because designing a book cover is time-consuming and not always satisfying.

The Internet is a great tool for finding effective and fast solutions for your designs, get feedback, exchange ideas and share documents. Pinning, sharing and liking are huge today and they do a really good advertisement for your book. This is a way for book lovers and design lovers to share their favorites.

Authors and designers have starting to use the social media as a help tool for them by sharing the design of the book cover and waiting for feedback from people before even starting the publishing.

Before starting with the cover design, first decide on the message that you are planning to send with the cover.

Think about the value proposition of your book. What your target audience is and what they expect: power and  knowledge, revenger and murder, aspiration and inspiration, passion and romance or achievements and success.

Narrow it all down to emotion, incentive and motivation. Only this way will you generate visual metaphors and ideas which will determine the choice of color palette, the imagery, the layout and typography.

What the book cover design should do is to generate excitement and grab attention. Think about the cover as the first and most important tool for advertising success. That’s why it needs to grab everyone’s attention and make them stop and take a look. It’s the best path to self-promotion.

Another thing that you should keep in mind is that the book needs to show what the genre is. Choose the right metaphor, imagery and typography to “speak” to the audience.

Minimalism is always in style. It focuses on the name of the author and the title of the book.

People enjoy visual images so pay attention the imagery of the book. Try to make it fun and playful and try different elements of the graphic design. Don’t be afraid to be bold.

How to Create Outstanding Ebook Cover with a Template

An eye-catching e-book cover is a strategic, emotional and visual look into the content of your book. If you plan on designing your cover on your e-book, there are some things you should consider.

But, this is not only about having an e-book with a professional looking cover. It’s an important part of the process of writing the story and designing the cover that represents the content of the book.

It’s important because the book cover might be the only chance you’ve got with some readers to persuade them into buying your book and reading it. In the literary world, books are truly judged by their covers. A boring cover will make readers think that the content is also boring, even if the content might be the best one in the world.

Read on for some things that you should keep on your mind when diving into the world of designing your own cover.

Get Inspiration

Before starting with the first step, browse a bit on the Internet and inspire yourself. You can even visit the local library or bookstore and check out some book covers.  Good idea is to also take photos so that later, you can take a look at them again and see what’s the things that most attracts your eye.

Create a list of all the things that show up as most popular in your likes of book covers. Think about typography, info on the cover, negative space, colouring and typography.

But, also take a look at the book covers that you really don’t like and try to find the thing in all those covers that makes you not liking them. This way, you’ll know what not to use in your design.

The cover needs to be in the right size

Here, there are 3 things that need to be considered – file size, resolution and aspect ratio. The aspect ratio always needs to be in pixels. If you think this is pretty complicated, prepare yourself beforehand with some instructions and tutorials so that you don’t get stuck in the middle of the design process.

Readers of different sites and social platforms have different preferences every, so you should also think about having more than one book cover to use on different platforms and web sites. So, always keep as master copy of the original file of the template so that you can add changes whenever you need to.

Amazon now has new size recommendations so you will need to create the cover in a dimension higher than 2820 pixels. If you decide to go with the skinny look and version you will use the 2828×4500 recommended size, but for a 6×9 proportion, you should use 3200×4800 pixels. If you go through the different books on Amazon, you will notice that most of the authors choose the 6×9 dimensions and don’t really like the thin version.

Barnes & Noble still ask for a smaller size but you can easily downsize it to 1600×2400, but the file needs to be less than 2MB.

Use a correct image

If you decide to use an image or not – that’s your choice. But, if you do decide to use, then there are some things that you should think about.

The most important one – forget about the stock photos, they are cliché and monotonous. You don’t want to find another writer with the similar cover like yours. Also, if you are not a pro at Photoshop, don’t play too much with the image.

5 Things to Have in Mind before Creating an Ebook Cover with a Template

5 Things to Have in Mind before Creating an Ebook Cover with a Template

Choosing and making the cover for your eBook can be as defining as writing it. Ok, maybe not to you, but the thing about not judging the book by its cover is pretty much invalid with the invention of advertising. So of course you need to put a lot of thought about when creating your eBook cover with a template. Even choosing the right template can be defining, especially if you are not a pro with designing. Here are the five crucial things you need to have in mind before you go on in creating your eBook cover with a template.

1. Know the specifics and choose the right template

Make sure you know the dimensions that your template needs to be in. This is probably the most important as it is the only one that cannot be fixed, adjusted or compromise. The dimensions are given and need to be followed. So make sure you know the exact ones before you go on to choosing your template. After that you can choose the template onto which you want to create your eBook cover.

2. Know your book

Keep in mind what kind of eBook you are creating a cover for. If you are to look around the eBook store you are going to notice that different genres of eBooks have somewhat similar covers. So you can basically distinguish a horror, mystery, romance or self-help eBook just by their type of cover. This is good to keep in mind. Even if you are looking to break the mold and want your eBook not to have a typical mystery, horror or romance cover, you should know which mold you are breaking. Which leads us to the next rule

3. Know what you want

This one is all on you. No one can tell you what kind of cover you need. Whatever you are expecting from the cover of your eBook you should decide before you start creating it. Look around and see what’s out there, search for inspiration and take notes. Maybe even do a sketch to see what looks good for you.

4. Keep in mind the size

Now this is completely different than the dimensions of the template you are going to need. This is for you to take note of how big the size of those eBook covers on Amazon look. When marketed eBooks show in rather small thumbnails. So know that your design should be visible and readable even in small size. You are going to want people to be able to make out something of the book even when they see it in small size at first glance.

5. You need a test audience

You might be able to do this alone, but not without an opinion. This is where your friends and family come in play. It is good to have a diverse group of test audience but when choosing one try to have at least some members that match the target audience for your book. That way you can get different and relevant opinions every step of the way.

How to Buy Ebook Cover Template that Fits your Needs

How to Buy Ebook Cover Template that Fits your Needs

Marketing your eBook might not be as important as writing it, but it can make just the same difference as to whether people read it or not. So when presenting it to other people it’s very important you have the right eBook cover to do it right. EBook cover templates can be bought all over the internet, and that’s the easy part, but finding one that would perfectly suit your eBook takes a bit of thinking.

1. What do you want the cover to say

Or in other words, have an idea of what you are looking for. An eBook cover template comes mostly blank and it is up to you to add the elements. They layout may be different so if you have an idea that would involve more text you should look something that would work to incorporate that. If you want a large image look for that. Keep in mind that your eBook cover has to be visible on tablets, readers and mobile devices so you are going to want to make it readable.

2. The feel of it all

Usually when you think of business eBooks a certain type of cover comes to mind, same goes for when you think of romance novels or mystery books, they all follow a certain design layout that help us recognize what kind of book we’re dealing with. This is a good thing to keep in mind when buying an eBook cover template. Would the template be easy to translate into a design that fits your eBook? This is important because you want a design that will tell people what your book is about and get their interest from the first look. So if your book is a romance novel, for example, maybe google romance novels eBook covers and you will get inspired and know which direction to take.

3. Know your skills

If you are planning on designing your own cover, then you should evaluate how good you are at designing and how proficient are your computer skills. If you have basic knowledge then perhaps you should buy the eBook cover template that has the simplest layout to work with. You don’t have to get in over your head. When designing an eBook cover it’s better to get the simple layout and make it professional looking than getting a layout that is more difficult to work with and then making it look extremely amateur.

4. Know your specifications

This is the tedious part of the work, but it is probably the one you cannot afford to mess up. You need the know the height and width of your book, and with some templates even page number. It’s pretty simple, you or your publisher probably already know this information so don’t forget to use it. Get out there and get the perfect template to make the most of your eBook cover design.

How to Select the Right Blank Ebook Cover Template

How to Select the Right Blank Ebook Cover Template

Ebooks are really popular right now, with eBook readers on the front display of the most popular book stores in the world. So it is no surprise that when marketing your eBook you need to have a proper cover done that will help your book get around in the digital world. After all, promotion is a big part of being a writer today.  The good thing is, you are in luck, you can find and download a blank eBook cover template online and use it to build up on and create your eBook cover. The truth is, this has never been easier, and all you need is a basic set of skills and an idea.

The steps are quite simple and easy, you download a blank template, and then you add the title, text and background image for the cover. So the first thing you need to do is choose the template. It is important to look around and choose the best black eBook cover template for your book. Even though you might think there isn’t much of a difference between blank templates, if promoting your book the right way is important to you, you should do your homework.

First of all, you should know the size you need. Check with your published if your eBook cover need to be a specific size and resolution so you can pick wisely. Other than that you should take note of the page count. This is really important as you do not want to be stuck with a black eBook cover template that doesn’t match your book. These technical questions are the first ones you need to have answered when choosing. A design might not be good or to the best of your liking, but things like this can actually complicate and sabotage your promotion or work with your publisher.

Second, even though the ebook cover template IS BLANK there are still quite a few to choose from. Look at your options carefully. Keep in mind the design you want to do on the cover and think about which layout would be best for it. If you are choosing a 3D blank eBook cover template you should check if the resolution is good and if the file is fit for a design software you can work in.

Third, think about what type of book you are designing a cover for. Is it a business manual, self-help book, student book, a novel etc? So while a business manual or a student book might work with a larger, thinner design, a novel or a self-help book would definitely look better on a proper thick book design.

So whatever you choose you should look at your options and choose the design that will work for and not against your book. Choose something that you think you will have no difficulties to work with, and get creating. The future of your book might depend on it.

Tips for Amazon Ebook Cover Template

Tips for Amazon Ebook Cover Template

After writing the content for your ebook, the next thing is the cover. The cover is important for promoting the ebook, distributing it and doing the whole marketing procedure Take a look at these tips and see how an ebook cover template is produced as well some considerations you should keep in mind.

Authors and publishers know that cover design is really important for the success of the ebook. In the first few years, when ebooks were starting to show up, they all had very simple covers with just plain text or they didn’t even have covers. Now, an ebook without a cover would be rejected immediately by the retailers.

The cover needs to tell the story of the book, to represent the topic and the genre. And it’s not the same when designing for a printed book and for an ebook. The digital world is a bit different from the printing world and has its own requirements.

There are 3 basic shapes that you should consider when creating the design for the cover of your ebook and they are:

  • Rectangle with a 3:2 ratio: This is approximately the shape of the printed books and the optimal Kindle screen shape.
  • Rectangle with a 4:3 ratio: This is the common ratio for videos and digital photos and the ratio of the iPad screen.
  • Square with a 1:1 ratio: This is not the usual screen ratio, but it’s common for images of products on the websites. A shape like this allows you to maximize the online space for displaying.

Within the 3 different shapes, there are 4 variations of the size. Keep in mind that sizes of digital images are measure in pixels and not in cm.

  • Thumbnail. This is a very small view of the cover and it’s the most common one. But, this thumbnail is very important because it’s the one that appears in browse results when readers try to find your book an buy it. Amazon ebook cover template has the typical 80×115 pixels which on a computer is displayed as 2×3 cm.
  • E-reader screen. This is the visuals that will show up to your readers when they open your ebook on the reading device. Some might say that this screen is not very significant because readers see it only after they do the purchase and buy your book. On an iPhone and older Kindles, this will be 600×800. On older iPads and on an iPad mini, thi would be 768×1024 pixels.
  • Future-proof. Always keep a master copy with the highest resolution.

If you ask someone about the perfect size of an ebook cover template, the shortest anwer you might get is that there is no perfect size. But, a general rule now is that you upload an ebook cover that is 1600 pixels on the short side. Specifications can vary among different distributors of ebooks and can change with new devices. Adjustments are also being made constantly because of the changes that constantly happen in the digital world and because of that, you should have all ebook covers designed at 2500 pixels on the short size and 300 dpi. With this, you not just have the right size for the moment, but you are also future-proofing your work for the changes to come in the future.
